Twin Tiers Section - Society of Women Engineers

2023 Margaret R. Brewster Scholarship

 

This $2000 non-renewable scholarship is open to high school seniors within the Twin Tiers region who identify as female.

 

The applicant must meet following criteria:

 

  • High school senior who lives or attends school in the Twin Tiers SWE Section.     (Bradford County, PA is included in this area)
  • Is enrolled in or accepted for enrollment in an undergraduate degree program in engineering or computer science at an ABET accredited, CSAB accredited, or SWE approved school.
  • Is in a position to accept the scholarship in the year for which it is being awarded.
  • Is not receiving full funding (tuition and room & board) for education from another organization (e.g. members of the Armed Services attending US Military Academies, students receiving reimbursement from an employer).

Arthur B. King Scholarship

 

The scholarship is awarded to a deserving Athens Borough resident, male or female, upon their graduation or matriculation from the Athens Area High School for payment of college tuition and on- campus room and board up to a four-year period in order to obtain an undergraduate degree.

 

Selection of the recipient will be based on academic qualifications, character, extra-curricular activities, community service, and financial need.

Please note:  applicant must be a resident of Athens Borough.

The EQT Energize Your Education Scholarship Program funded by the EQT Foundation will award up to 15 $10,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors

 

Eligibility criteria:

  • Current high school senior in PA counties including Bradford
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (85%)
  • Seeking a degree in a field utilized by the oil and gas industry, such as computer science or information technology; civil, chemical or petroleum engineering; energy or land management; environmental science; geology; safety science; or welding

 

Scholarships can be used at either two- or four-year educational institutions.

 

Students will be evaluated based on academic history, involvement in extracurricular activities, work experience, and essay response.

Guthrie Community Credit Union Scholarship - $1000

 

Guthrie Federal Credit Union is deeply committed to supporting the education goals of graduating seniors.

Eligibility Criteria:   

  • Graduating senior who has been accepted into an accredited four- year college or university
  • Write an essay of 250-500 words, double spaced, that describes areas in your life where you have demonstrated leadership and overcame obstacles either through your school, social, or family life.
  • Proficient academic performance in high school, but not necessarily the highest grades
  • Provide a list of school-based activities (including leadership positions, clubs and athletics) as well as community volunteer activities and the number of months or years.

Rockman’s Tuxedo Shop/Babe & George Tymoski Scholarship - $500

 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Graduating senior who has been accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning (a 4 year, 2 year, or trade school) in the United States.
  • Essay (200-250 words double spaced) on what makes you an excellent candidate for this scholarship
  • Provide a list of school-based activities (including leadership positions, clubs and athletics) as well as community volunteer activities and the number of months or years
  • A copy of your completed community service project that improved the communities in the Valley and demonstrated your entrepreneurial ability and knowledge.
  • Should be continuing your education in a field that will lead to their starting your own business or obtaining a degree in the business field.

Tioga Tae Kwon Do Scholarship – Up to $1200

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be an active student of Tioga Tae Kwon Do, LLC.
  • Enrolled in accredited college or university
  • Essay (200-250 words double spaced) on how Martial Arts have influenced your life, focusing on tenets of Tae Kwon Do:  Courtesy , Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit
  • Transcript of high school grades
  • Copy of Resume (including volunteer work)

Applicant shall have demonstrated strong academic and martial arts performance.  Decision is based on merit and not need.

Tri County Rural Electric Scholarship - $2625

 

This scholarship offers accessible and future focused opportunities for students studying electrical technology.  With a particular emphasis on inclusion of two-year technical certificate programming that supports current and future generations of students in electronic technology.

 

Eligibility requirements:

 

  • Graduating Senior
  • Pursuing a degree or certificate in electrical contracting, electrical technology, electrical engineering, line-man certification and other electrical utility careers as may be considered
  • Complete a 200-250 word (double spaced) essay on why you have chosen this career path and the reasons why you are qualified and deserving of the scholarship
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited technical school, university, or college in the U.S.
  • Submit a transcript and list of school-based activities as well as community volunteer activities
  • Applicants must have demonstrated financial need

Towanda Musical Society Scholarship - $700

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Graduating senior from any of the 7 Bradford County high schools.
  • Accepted into the music department of an accredited college or university.
  • A short essay (200-250 words double spaced). The selection committee is looking for reasons why you have chosen this career path, and reasons why you feel qualified and deserve the scholarship.
  • Please provide a list of school-based activities (including leadership positions, clubs and athletics) as well as community volunteer activities and the number of months or years.
  • Must be pursuing a degree in music.
  • Two reference letters (one from your school’s music dept.).
  • If requested by the Towanda Musical Society Scholarship Committee, submit an “audition tape.”

Karen Eltringham Excellence In Nursing Scholarship - $2000

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Graduating senior from Athens Area School District, Athens, PA.
  • Accepted into an accredited two- or four-year technical school, college, or university and pursuing a degree in the field of nursing.
  • Have demonstrated financial need.
  • Must have earned at least an 80% grade point average while in high school
  • Must have personal characteristics suitable for an effective career in nursing. (Compassion, Empathy, Patience and Integrity)
  • Write an essay (200 – 250 words double spaced) that describe a time in your life when you demonstrated empathy, compassion, and dedication while helping someone in need. How did you approach the situation, and what impact did your actions have on the individual and yourself? Reflect on how these qualities will shape your approach to nursing.
  •  Please provide a list of school-based activities (including leadership positions, clubs and athletics) as well as community volunteer activities and the number of months or years.

Margot Anderson Crawshaw Scholarship - $2000

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Graduating senior from Athens Area School District or a past award recipient of the Margot Anderson Crawshaw Scholarship.
  • Past award recipients have the opportunity to renew for up to 4 years, but must reapply.
  • Has been accepted into a 2-year or 4-year degree program pursuing a degree in the Arts such as fine arts, graphic arts, interior design, fashion design, architecture, landscape architecture, art education, photography, or architectural drafting.
  • This is a merit-based scholarship. Applicant must have earned at least a B average or higher-grade point average while in high school.
  • Please submit an essay of no more than 250 words doubled spaced on how you came to choose your program path.

The Woman of Steel Female Scholarship-- $1000

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Female or identifies as female
  • High School Senior
  • Resident of the Twin Tiers are of NY/PA
  • Exhibits leadership skills
  • Strong community activism
  • 2.3 GPA or higher
  • Enrollment in college or skilled-trade program or certified process
  • 250-350 word essay on 1 of 2 topics printed on applications
  • Letter of recommendation
  • List of academic achievements/activism/extracurricular activities
  • Panel interview

Kennedy Valve/WENY TV Trade and Technical School Scholarship - $1000

 

  • Students enrolling in a trade or technical school in the upcoming fall semester are eligible to apply.  
  • Scholarships will be paid directly to the educational institution.  
  • Requirements for consideration are a written scholarship application & letters of reference.

CarefirstNY/WENY TV Nursing School Scholarship - $1000

 

  • Students enrolling in a Nursing school in the upcoming fall semester are eligible to apply.
  • Scholarships will be paid directly to the educational institution,
  • Requirements for consideration are a written scholarship application and letters of reference.
