About the Principal

Mr. David Gabriel

I am a proud alumnus of Athens Area High School, class of 1998. I went on to attend Bucknell University, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English in 2002. During my time at Bucknell, I was a dedicated member of the men's track and field team, earning four varsity letters and serving as a two-time team captain.

After graduating, I returned to Athens in 2002 and began my career as an English teacher. That same year, I took over the boys' track and field program, coaching for 15 successful years until 2017. Additionally, I contributed to the football program as an assistant coach from 2004 to 2012.

Following 19 years of teaching, I was promoted to head teacher at Athens Area High School. In 2022, I completed my Educational Leadership degree from the California University of Pennsylvania and was appointed Assistant Principal of Athens Area High School. In the summer of 2024, after the retirement of William Clark, I was honored to be named Principal of Athens High School, a role in which I take immense pride as a leader in the community that shaped me.

I have spent my entire life in the Valley, where I currently reside with my wife, Kelley, and our three children: Kensley, Savannah, and Colton.
