COPPA/FERPA

In 1998, Congress enacted the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and requires the Federal Trade Commission to issue and enforce regulations concerning children’s online privacy. The primary goal of COPPA is to place parents in control over what information is collected from their young children online and was designed to protect children under age 13 while accounting for the dynamic nature of the Internet.

The Athens Area School District is offering a listing of our provider’s contact information and links to their respective COPPA documentation as a resource for our teachers and districts to reference the online applications listed. It is highly recommended to consult with your district’s legal counsel on COPPA laws to be certain that you are fully compliant with the online applications that are being utilized in your district.
