About the Principal

Mr. James Schmieg

Jim Schmieg
Mr. Schmieg, the youngest of six children of William and Ruth Schmieg, was born and raised in Sayre, PA.   He attended Epiphany School, and after graduating from Sayre Area High School, attended Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA.  He received his Master’s in Education from Penn State University and Principal’s Certification from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  
 
Mr. Schmieg started his career in education in 1994 at Frank Layden Elementary School in Frontenac, KS and then three years later, at St. Mary’s-Colgan High School in Pittsburg, KS.   Returning to the Valley in 2000, Mr. Schmieg was hired at Northeast Bradford Jr/Sr High School, first as a Social Studies teacher and later as the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director.   After 16 years at NEB, he accepted the position as Assistant High School Principal in the Athens Area School District.   Now as Principal of Harlan Rowe Middle School, Mr. Schmieg looks forward to providing the best possible educational experience for the students of the Athens Area School District.
 
Mr. Schmieg is married to Shannon O’Shea Schmieg.  They have a daughter, Gretchen, who currently attends the Athens Area High School.  The family resides in Sayre, PA.
