6th Grade Language Arts

So...... the 4th  M.P. is here and  I thought I'd post a few reminders:

Students need 10 AR points for the 4th M.P.  - they should have 5 points by May 2 .

We are back into our text book and our focus is vocabulary for each story, skills work and comprehension of selection. We usually take 2 weeks to cover each story. Our first week is vocabulary work and the following week we focus on reading and discussing the selection.

Homework is assigned Mon - Thurs. ...No homework on Friday, but they should be reading an AR book over the weekend.

Class Requirements - come prepared with all necessary materials and be prepared to interact. It makes the learning process more enjoyable and it has more meaning to students. As the end of the year approaches it is important to remember that your grade is an average of the 4 marking periods and you need an average of 70% to pass the course. If you fail the course, you could possibly take a summer school class or you might fail 6th grade. Nobody wants this to happen so keep your grades up... complete homework and study for your tests.

What do you need for class? Agenda  Notebook & 3-Ring Binder   Pencils      Homework   and an Accelerated Reading book - once you have your points you still need a book to read for enjoyment.

Homework  - Assigned everyday, except Friday. It is to be handed in the day after it is assigned. Late work will be accepted if you are absent. If the student forgets an occasional homework I will accept it from them. However, if you are forgetting your homework a couple of times a week this is a bad habit and late work is not accepted. We review the work as it is handed it and we test on information weekly. Homework is reinforcement for skillls we are practicing in class. If you are not completing homework it will likely affect your grade.

Accelerated Reading -  These are books that students read and then take computer generated tests. They accumulate points as they read the books and take tests successfully. The points do not carry over to the next marking period. I've tried to encourage students to find an author they enjoy or a series of books, this will make the book reading process more enjoyable. Yes, reading a book can be enjoyable!

Points for the Year

1st M.P.  - 10 points

2nd M.P  - 15 points

3rd M.P.  -  20 points

4th M.P  -  10 points

Absent? Contact the office and they will notify teachers to submit homework. If you are absent you have as many days as you are absent to complete your missed work/test/quiz. It is the students' responsibility to ask the teacher for assignments and make arrangements to make up a test. Tests/quizzes must be made up during the students study hall/resource period.
