Science and Technology Facility (SAT)
The SAT Unit is important for two main reasons: 1) a great deal of money has been sent by the international team of countries to establish a habitat on Mars, thus they are expecting important scientific discoveries to be made on Mars, and 2) the resources and technologies that are unique to Mars must be developed by the crew in order to survive. The SAT Unit will study the geology, climate, and history of Mars, the effects of deep-space habitation on humans and the new technological innovations useful in the Mars habitat. In addition, the unit is responsible for locating, extracting and processing raw materials into useful products.
The Canadian space program has done extensive research in the area of science and technology making them the logical choice to design the SAT Unit.
