SCHOOLS: SRU, Harriet Child, Gladys Burnham, Sheshequin Ulster, & High School
Criteria For Qualification for Services:
- A student must present at least a 25% delay in a given areas in order to qualify for services.
- A Standard Score of 75 or below, or a percentile score of <15% is also indicative of a 25% delay.
- The normal standard score for any given child is 85-115, with 100 being the mean.
Disorders:
Articulation - A student's ability to correctly produce the English speech sounds in the initial, medial and final positions of words, phrases, sentences and during conversational speech.
Receptive Language - A student's ability to listen and understand spoken/written language.
Expressive Language - A student's ability to express his wants and needs effectively within his/her community. An expressive language disorder is a communication disorder in which there are difficulties with verbal expression.
Voice - A student's ability to produce adequate pitch, volume and resonance.
Fluency/Stuttering - A students abilty to speak fluently 95% of the time. Stuttering is a speech disorder in which the flow of speech is disrupted by involuntary repetitions and pprolongations of sounds, syllables, words or phrase, and involuntary silent pauses or blocks in which the stutterer is unable to produce sounds.
Auditory Processing - Also know as Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD), is a term for a variety of disorders that affect the way the brain processes auditory information.

Developmental Milestones
4 to 5 years of age:
¨The child produces most sounds correctly, especially: f, v, k, g, p, b, t, d ,m, n, h, w, y.
¨The child is able to speak in complete sentences.
¨The child is able to follow two and three step directions.
¨The child is able to verbally express his/her needs and is able to recall past activities.
¨The child uses fluent speech to express himself/herself.
¨The child’s voice quality is appropriate for his/her size and age.
6 to 7 years of age:
¨The child produces most sounds correctly especially; the above mentioned plus: s, z, sh, ch, ,j, l, th.
¨The child is able to produce more complex and increased length of sentences in conversation and in written language.
¨The child is able to follow multiple directions when verbally presented.
¨The child is able to retell an activity or story with correct sequencing of events.
¨The child is able to more specifically express his needs and desires.
8 years of age:
· The child produces all sounds correctly including the /r/ and /r-vowel/ sounds.
· The child uses correct grammar skills to communicate in both verbal and written form.
- The child uses more complex sentence structures to express himself in verbal and written forms.
