There are many events happening at our school that the PTG is 100% involved in. These events happen all year long. If you or your children are interested in being a part of any of these events, please contact us. We love to have as much participation as possible.
Family Fun Nights
The PTG organizes a night where the students can bring their families into the school for activities, snacks and crafts. We usually have about three of these each school year. These nights are a great way for you as parents to meet your child's classmates and other teachers. This kids love this social time. Please look for newsletters coming home in your child's folder for these upcoming nights!
Book Fair
Scholastic Books. We run the student book fair twice each year. This brings much needed funds into our school plus allows us to take some wonderful books home. Teachers usually bring their classes down twice within the week the book fair is running. This helps them preview the books the first day and then to purchase the next. You are more than welcome to visit the school and help your child find and purchase books. Volunteers keep the book fiar open the entire school day. If you are interested in volunteering with this, please contact Deanna Barrett dmb926@msn.com.
Halloween Float
Each year the community puts on a Halloween Parade. Each year we like to enter our own float. With the help of parent volunteers, we have been able to put together 1st Place entries!!!!! If you are interested in helping with the float, or if your child would like to be a part of the parade, please let us know!!
School Assemblies
The PTG loves to get the kids together as a whole school. We use this opportunity to bring in some programs with educational values. Teachers from our school are encouraged to come to us with an idea of a presenter they would like to see in the school. We have had an array of programs. These presenters are able to teach kids in a fun, engaging manner some important lessons. The kids really enjoy these programs, if you know of a presentation that would be beneficial, please let us know.
Field Trips
Each grade is able to go on a field trip with the help of the PTG. We have traveled to Binghamton Zoo, Ithaca Science Center, The Clemens Center, and more. The kids really like these fun times away from school, so we feel it is important to continue making this happen. If you would like to take these trips with your children, please contact their teacher for more information on dates and times.
Holiday Crafts
Every year before winter break, the PTG organizes a craft where the kids make something special for their families. We provide the children with all the supplies and assistance in making these items. During this activity, the students rotate from classroom to classroom, snacks and entertainment are also provided. The teachers really appreciate this and the kids love it. If you would like to help out with any grade level, please contact us. We encourage as many volunteers for this activity as we can get.
Fairwell 5th graders
After six years in school and before the big leap to 6th grade, we like to remind the 5th graders that we will miss them! Each year Yearbooks are offered to the students. These are a full color soft bound book of the entire school. The PTG purchases these Yearbooks for each 5th grade student, at NO COST to them.
Teacher Appreciation Week
The first full week in May has been tagged Teacher Appreciation Week. During this week the PTG and other parent volunteers come into the school to show this appreciation. We hold a teachers luncheon, we cover lunch duties and recess duties, and others as needed. The teachers really love this time and we like to remind them that they are doing such a wonderful job with our students. If you are interested in helping out during this, please let us know. Any small gesture is great!
Speed Stacking Club
In our October meeting, we were introduced to a new club being coordinated by one of our active members of the PTG, Beth Herbst. Sport Stacking, also known as Cup Stacking.
What is Speed Stacking, you ask?
It is an individual and team sport that involves stacking specialized plastic cups in specific sequences in as little time as possible. The governing body setting the rules is the WSSA (World Sport Stacking Association [4]). Participants of sport stacking stack cups in pre-determined sequences, competing against the clock or another player. Sequences are usually pyramids of three, six, or ten cups. The sport has generated a large Youtube community, with stackers uploading their fastest times to the video sharing website
This club is currently being offered to all 5th grade students. Each student should have received a sign up form in their folders. If you have any questions regarding the club, please feel free to contact Beth, bherbst@stny.rr.com
