Ridgebury Volunteer Fire Company – Robert Bowman Memorial Scholarship of  $500


Eligibility Requirements:

=       Bradford County Resident

=       Graduating high school student or current college or technical/trade school student

=       Member in “Good Standing” of a volunteer fire company or ambulance organization in Bradford County

=       Participation in the program requires a commitment of 72 community service hours (see application for explanation)

=       Preference given to student enrolling in degree programs related to fire science, criminal justice programs, or EMT programs

Hermine Solt Student Scholarship


PAEOP offers the Hermine Solt Student Scholarship of $500 to a graduating senior who is pursuing higher education in a business-related field (secretarial, office technology, accounting, business education).

2020 Blair E. Caboot Memorial Scholarship

The NPCTM annually presents a $750 scholarship to a deserving senior from northeastern Pennsylvania.

Applicants must attend school in one of several counties, the list includes Bradford County.

2020 Lockheed Martin STEM Scholarship Program  

Up to 200 renewable $10,000 scholarships will be awarded.  

Eligibility requirements follow:

=       U.S. Citizen

=       High school senior with a minimum GPA of 2.5, or college freshmen or sophomores with a minimum GPA of 2.5

=       Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college or university in the US for the upcoming academic year

=       Be majoring or planning to major in one of many specified eligible STEM programs

2020 Lockheed Martin Vocational Scholarship


Up to 150 - $6,600 scholarships will be awarded.

Eligibility requirements follow:

=       U.S. Citizen

=       High school senior, graduate (GED equivalent), or are college 

undergraduates who have not obtained a bachelor’s degree

=       Planning to enroll full-time at an accredited vocational technical school, trade school, two-year community college or state college

=       Pursuing a degree or vocational-technical certificate in one of   

many specified areas of study.

The United Steelworkers (USW) Hugh Carcella Scholarship Program  offers scholarships each year with a total value of $4,000 ($1,000 per year for four years)

Eligibility Requirements:

=       Applicant must be son or daughter of a member of the United Steelworkers, District 10 in good standing with the local union; or son or daughter of disabled, retired, or deceased member of an affiliated local union who was in good standing with the United Steelworkers at the time of retirement or death.

=       Graduating Senior

=       Scholarship for use in an accredited college or university in the US or Canada, following course of study normally leading to a bachelor’s degree.  A two-year community college is acceptable when matriculating toward a four year bachelor’s degree program.

Applications may be obtained, upon request, from participating local unions.  Applicants will fill out the application form giving all required information.  No application will be accepted unless properly signed by the President and Recording Secretary of the respective local union.

Joseph R. Every Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded for the first year of higher education only and will be in an amount determined by the selection committee. 

A maximum award of $10,000 may be made.  Funds may be used to help pay for tuition, books, and room and board.  Payment will be made directly to the university or college the recipient attends.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

=       Be a high school senior or graduate of a public or non-public high school in Bradford County.

=       Be accepted to an accredited college, university or professional school in a program leading to a degree in education, medicine, or engineering.

=       Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0

=       Consideration will be given to financial need.

Twin Tiers Section - Society of Women Engineers

2020 Margaret R. Brewster Scholarship

This $2000 non-renewable scholarship is open to high school seniors within the Twin Tiers region who identify as female.

The applicant must meet following criteria:

=       High school senior who lives or attends school in the Twin Tiers SWE Section.  (Bradford County, PA is included in this area)

=       Is enrolled in or accepted for enrollment in an undergraduate degree program in engineering or computer science at an ABET accredited, CSAB accredited, or SWE approved school.

=       Is in a position to accept the scholarship in the year for which it is being awarded.

=       Is not receiving full funding (tuition and room & board) for education from another organization (e.g. members of the Armed Services attending US Military Academies, students receiving reimbursement from an employer).

Arthur B. King Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded to a deserving Athens Borough resident, male or female, upon their graduation or matriculation from the Athens Area High School for the payment of college tuition, on campus room and board up to a four year period in order to obtain an undergraduate degree.

Selection of the recipient will be based on academic qualifications, character, extra-curricular activities, community service, and financial need.

Applications are available in the guidance office as of February 1st.

Please note:  applicant must be a resident of Athens Borough.

Twin Tiers Youth for Christ Scholarship of $5000  (2 awards given)


=       Applicant is a Christian who agrees with the expression of faith listed on the application.

=       Applicant is a graduating senior, having been a resident of Chemung County, New York, or an adjacent county for over six months.  Bradford County residents qualify.

=       Applicant’s goal is to obtain an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.

=       Applicant has obtained a recommendation from a pastor of a Christian Church.  Applicant does not have to be a member of that pastor’s church.  (See application)

The “GROW the Future” Scholarship 

Penn-York Valley Project GROW offers an award of $150 to a graduating senior who is pursuing further study in a career in one of the following fields of academic study:  Environmental Studies, Culinary Arts, Sustainable Agriculture, Horticulture, and/or a related field.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:

=       Candidates should have a minimum of 5 hours of volunteer experience with Project GROW or a related community organization

=       And/or have completed a project approved by Project GROW (or a related community organization) leading up to application.

=       Candidates must be community-minded, exhibit qualities of 

integrity and leadership, have a respect for and love of nature, and demonstrate a good work ethic.

Financial need may be considered in the award of this scholarship.

Student must have guidance counselor approval when applying.

Bradford-Sullivan Forest Landowners’ Association Scholarship - $1000

This scholarship is available to students who are entering into a forestry, agricultural, natural resource management, environmental education, or related field of study.

Eligibility requirements follow:

=       Planning to major in Forestry, Environmental Resource Management, Agriculture, Agronomy, Parks, Environmental Education, or related fields of study

Rockman’s Apparel/Babe & George Tymoski  Scholarship - $500

Eligibility Requirements:

=       Graduating senior who has been accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning (a 4 year, 2 year, or trade school) in the United States.

=       Must have completed a community service project that improved the communities in the Valley and demonstrated their entrepreneurial ability and knowledge.

=       Should be continuing their education in a field that will lead to their starting their own business or obtaining a degree in the Business Field.

This is a newly established scholarship by Guthrie FCU, and applicants should have a strong work ethic and an understanding of community service through volunteerism.

Eligibility Criteria:

   *   Graduating senior who has been accepted into an accredited 

         four year college or university

   *   Proficient academic performance in high school, but not 

         necessarily the highest grades

   *   Community service

Northern Tier Solid Waste Authority Dedication to the Environment Scholarship of $1000

The NTSWA would like to encourage and support individuals furthering their education in an environmental field.

The following eligibility requirements apply:

=       Resident of Bradford County for at least 1 year prior to application

=       Must provide documentation of acceptance at an institution of higher education in a field related to the environment (i.e. biology, chemistry, environmental science, meteorology, etc) or waste management

The AAEA Community Service Award of $500

Sponsored by the Athens Area Education Association, this graduating senior is recognized for 100 certified hours of volunteerism.  

The following criteria apply:

=        AAHS graduating senior in good academic standing over a 4-year high school career

=       Successful completion of a minimum 100 hours of community service – certified by the organization for whom the student volunteered

=       Enrollment at a higher institution of learning (2 or 4 year)

Harriet W. Child and Edna Mae Harkness Scholarships

Both scholarships are intended for students who are residents of those areas of Smithfield, Ridgebury, or Ulster Townships that sent students to the former SRU High School.  Within this criterion are additional requirements for each scholarship

Child:  Students who qualify under the residency requirement must plan to pursue a four-year post-secondary degree.  Students who plan a two-year, trade/technical, or LPN program are also eligible.

Harkness:  Students who qualify under the residency requirement must plan to pursue a post-secondary education in the Business field.

The Captain Paul Arthur Ulkins Memorial Scholarship of $1000 is given by Mr. Douglas A. Ulkins, former Superintendent of the Athens Area School District, in memory of his father.

This scholarship recognizes a graduating senior who will be the first in his/her immediate family to attend a four-year institution of higher learning.  The recipient, being dedicated to academic achievement, must maintain a GPA of 3.0 throughout his/her freshman year.

There is no application for this award.  If you are the first in your immediate family to attend a four-year college or university, please report this information to the guidance office.

2020 Student-View Scholarship Program

        The Student-View Scholarship Program is sponsored by Student Insights, a market research firm helping colleges and universities communicate more effectively with high school seniors.

        The scholarship program is offering $12,000 worth of scholarships (one-$5,000, two-$1,000, and ten-$500) to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior college or career school.

        It’s quick and easy to apply:

=       No minimum SAT/ACT score or GPA

=       No essay required

=       No application forms or fees

        Simply log on to and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area.

        The scholarship will be awarded via a random drawing of all completed applications.

        To qualify and apply for the $1500 scholarship, students must

The Vietnam Moving Wall Award - $500


This award, co-sponsored by the Vietnam Moving Wall Committee,  the Waverly VFW and the Waverly American Legion, recognizes an individual student from each of the Waverly, Sayre, and Athens schools who meets the criteria listed below.


*   Son or daughter of a veteran, or the grandson or granddaughter

*   Should have a record of involvement in their school and 

     community, church, scouting, service organizations or a record of 

     “volunteerism” (not including sports and clubs)

*   Will be a good student and community citizen, respectful to 

     others and helpful whenever given the opportunity

*   Will have been accepted into a program of higher education (4-

     year, 2-year, or technical school)
