10th grade

10th grade

Welcome to 10th grade. You started off walking; let’s move into a little bit of a jog. Hopefully you’ve given more thought to what you would like to do following high school and whether or not you decide that that choice is college, you should follow these steps:

Here is a video that may help you with your decision of what you would like to do after high school (just in case you didn’t see it on the 9th grade page).
  • Start thinking a bit more about your career goals. You may want to research some of the ones you are interested or even find out if there are some that you didn’t even know about. You have access to career exploration software that can help you with this from careercruising.com. See your school counselor if you need your login information. (e.g. I’m actually really thinking about going into psychology; maybe the Occupational Outlook Handbook can tell me all about what being a psychologist is like.)
  • Meet with your school counselor to see what their thoughts are on your career choice and see what classes they suggest you can take to reach that goal. Your counselors have seen many students come through the school and will more than likely know what kinds of classes that the school offers that focus on your choice of career. (e.g. My counselor says that statistics is pretty important for psychology majors. I should definitely take that in high school so that I can be familiar with it.)
  • Be ready for what’s to come! There are more difficult classes that are coming up as you go into your next two years. Remember to keep your grades up, and if you do decide that you want to go to college, be ready for both the SATs and Duel Enrollment classes. They’ll be very beneficial for you to take part in college life. (e.g. My counselor says that my statistics class counts as duel enrollment! That will be a lot less cost for me in the long run)
